DocScanner is developed by Binod Basnet (“we,” “our,” or “us”).

This Privacy Policy explains how information is accessed, processed, stored and shared when you use the DocScanner mobile application.

1. Overview

DocScanner is an offline-first document-scanning application. Document scanning, image processing, PDF creation, text recognition and document searching are designed to be performed locally on the user’s device.

We do not operate servers that receive or store users’ scanned documents, imported images, generated PDF files or recognized OCR text.

DocScanner displays advertisements using Google AdMob. Advertisement loading requires an internet connection, and AdMob may process limited device, advertising and usage information as described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Documents and OCR information

DocScanner may access, process and store the following information locally on the user’s device:

• Photographs captured using the device camera
• Images selected by the user
• Scanned document pages
• Generated PDF files
• Text recognized using optical character recognition
• Document titles, creation dates and page information
• Document organization and search information
• Local application preferences
• Application lock and security settings

This information is used only to provide DocScanner’s document-scanning, PDF-management, OCR-search and security functionality.

Scanned documents, imported images, PDF files and recognized text are not uploaded to our servers or provided to Google AdMob by DocScanner.

3. Local processing and storage

Document scanning and OCR

Image processing and text recognition are performed on the device using local software libraries, including Google ML Kit where applicable.

If the application uses a downloadable ML Kit recognition model, an internet connection may temporarily be required to download the model. The contents of documents are still processed locally and are not submitted to us.

Local document storage

Documents and related information are stored in DocScanner’s private application storage. Other applications cannot directly access this storage through normal Android application permissions.

A document may leave private application storage when the user intentionally opens, exports or shares it with another application.

Cloud services and device backups

DocScanner does not provide developer-operated cloud document storage or document synchronization.

Device-level backup services controlled by Android, Google, the device manufacturer or the user may operate according to the device’s backup settings. We do not operate or control these device-level backup services.

4. Google AdMob and third-party data collection

DocScanner uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK, commonly known as Google AdMob, to display advertisements and support application development.

According to Google, the Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and share information such as:

• IP address, which may be used to estimate the device’s general location
• Application interactions, including application launches, taps and advertisement interactions
• Diagnostic and performance information
• Device and account identifiers, including the Android Advertising ID and App Set ID where available
• Device information required for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention

Google may use this information for advertising, analytics, service delivery, measurement and fraud prevention.

AdMob does not receive the contents of scanned documents, imported images, generated PDF files or recognized OCR text from DocScanner.

Users can manage advertisement personalization through their Android or Google advertising settings.

Where legally required, DocScanner may present consent options for personalized or non-personalized advertising before requesting advertisements.

5. Permissions

DocScanner may request the following Android permissions or system access:

Camera

Camera access is used when the user chooses to photograph and scan a physical document.

Photos, media and files

Photo or file access is used when the user chooses to import an image, select a document, save an exported file or open a file.

On supported Android versions, DocScanner may use Android’s system photo picker or file picker instead of requesting broad storage access.

Biometric authentication

Biometric authentication may be used to provide optional fingerprint or face authentication for the application lock.

Biometric verification is performed by the Android operating system. DocScanner does not receive, collect or store fingerprint images, facial images or biometric templates.

Internet

Internet access is used to load Google AdMob advertisements, obtain applicable advertising-consent information and, where applicable, download required on-device OCR models.

Internet access is not used to upload scanned documents, imported images, generated PDF files or recognized text to our servers.

Notifications

If enabled, notifications may be used for application-related reminders or document-processing status. Users can disable notifications through Android Settings.

Permissions can be reviewed or revoked at any time through:

Android Settings → Apps → DocScanner → Permissions

Some features may not operate when their required permission is denied.

6. Security

DocScanner uses security measures intended to protect locally stored documents and application information.

Security features may include:

• AES-256 encryption for protected documents and images
• Encryption keys protected using the Android Keystore system
• Optional PIN-based application locking
• Optional fingerprint or face authentication on supported devices
• Screenshot restrictions on sensitive screens
• Android private application storage
• Android application sandboxing
• Local document-deletion procedures

These measures are intended to reduce the risk of unauthorized access. However, no storage, encryption or security system can guarantee absolute security.

Users are responsible for maintaining the security of their devices, device credentials, application PINs and device backups.

7. Data retention and document deletion

Documents, imported images, generated PDF files, recognized text, document metadata and application preferences remain on the device until the user:

• Deletes the applicable document
• Clears DocScanner’s application storage
• Uninstalls DocScanner
• Uses another available deletion function

When a document is deleted, DocScanner removes its associated local files and database records. The application may attempt to overwrite applicable files before deleting them.

Android devices commonly use flash storage, storage optimization, wear levelling and device backup systems. Therefore, DocScanner cannot guarantee that deleted information will be unrecoverable under every forensic, hardware or backup scenario.

We do not retain copies of deleted documents on developer-operated servers because documents are not uploaded to those servers.

Information collected by Google AdMob is retained according to Google’s own policies and retention practices.

8. User-initiated opening, exporting and sharing

DocScanner allows users to open, export or share selected documents.

When a user selects one of these actions, Android provides the selected file to the application or service chosen by the user. The user controls this action.

Information shared with another application is governed by that application’s privacy policy. We are not responsible for the data-handling practices of applications or services selected by the user.

9. Sale of personal information

We do not sell scanned documents, imported images, generated PDF files or recognized OCR text.

Google’s processing of advertising-related information is governed by Google’s policies and the advertising choices available to users.

10. Children’s privacy

DocScanner is not specifically designed or directed toward children under the age of 13.

We do not knowingly collect children’s scanned documents or personal information on developer-operated servers.

Advertising shown through the application is subject to the application’s selected Google Play audience settings, applicable law and Google’s advertising policies.

If DocScanner is made available to children, we will configure advertising and data practices according to applicable Google Play Families policies and legal requirements.

11. User accounts

DocScanner does not require users to create an online account.

Because no online account is created and no document data is stored on our servers, there is no server-side account or document information for users to request that we delete.

Users can delete locally stored information through DocScanner, Android application settings or by uninstalling the application.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in DocScanner’s functionality, third-party services, legal requirements or data-handling practices.

Updates will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Users are encouraged to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
